The past few months brought major change to my life.

I accepted a position as director of marketing for a regional fertility medicine practice based in Seattle.

After 5+ years of working out of coffee shops and 100% running my own show, I was craving a team environment again. And this was one of those opportunities that you just don’t pass up.

But working in an office every day is weird.

My first week on the job – after a few days of adjusting to my new work schedule, figuring out when to work on my business, how to get to work, and how to use a PC instead of a Mac for the first time since 2002 (!!) – I was WRECKED by Friday.

Lara Dalch | AboutSo, in typical me fashion, I proceeded to have my hair cut off the next morning… because, you know, I just hadn’t had enough change in my life yet. 😉

I crave change – AND it scares the crap out of me.

I deliberate about choices for far too long; but once I make a decision, things kind of snowball.

It’s like, once the door opens, I’m all in – resistance be damned.

And, just like that, I’m in the flow again… open to receiving whatever life brings my way.

Here’s what I’ve learned over years of navigating change, both welcome and not-so-welcome:

  • Change always (ALWAYS) brings awesome new things into my life, even if whatever initiated the change sucked.
  • Breathing and being present is the best way to move through change without totally freaking out.
  • Recognizing the ways in which change moves me closer to my ideal life makes it easier to stop resisting and just go with the flow.
  • Curiosity is a magical mindset during times of change. The more curious I am about what change will bring, the more lovely things come my way.

On a more practical level, meditation, exercise, sleep, good food – these are the essentials that keep me centered when my world is shifting.

If I put my energy into those four things, the rest sorts itself out.

It’s pretty simple actually: Change is inevitable.

We can stay stuck in resistance or freak out mode, or we can gather the tools we need to support us through change and enjoy the process.

Your tools might be different from mine – you’ll learn what they are when you slow down and tune in enough to experiment and notice what works.

What change is brewing in your life these days? What helps you lean in and enjoy instead of resist and dread? Tell me in the comments.

Your ideas just might help someone else get through a shift in their life, too.
