“If I want to do an amazing job of my work, my contribution to the world, then I need to be in top form physically, mentally, spiritually, psychologically. That’s why I invest my time in myself.”

Aparna Khanolkar is a mother, entrepreneur, and Ayurvedic lifestyle counselor.

In the past, Aparna served as the head chef – and later a menu consultant – for the Chopra Center for Well-Being in Carlsbad, CA. In addition, she developed curriculum for the Ayurveda program at the Natural Epicurean Academy of Culinary Arts in Austin, TX.

I invited Aparna to be on the podcast because I and many of the women I speak with are intrigued by the idea of Ayurveda – an ancient system of living from India – but don’t know much about it, or how it might benefit them. I first learned about the theories of self-care rooted in Ayurveda during my training as a health coach, and have often found them useful in helping clients understand their unique food, movement, and stress management needs.

Aparna and I discuss how to bring the tools of Ayurveda into modern life – so that you can feel more peaceful, calm, present, and connected to your purpose.

Highlights

  • The basics of Ayurveda why this ancient system for living is relevant to modern women
  • How even small Ayurvedic practices can help you feel less overwhelmed and frazzled – and more connected and present
  • Why Ayurveda addresses body, mind, soul, and spirit – and how looking at all aspects of yourself can bring healing “from the inside out”
  • How growing up in India informed how Aparna brings Ayurvedic practices into her life now
  • Simple Ayurvedic practices that can support you in your day-to-day life and work
  • How to create your own rituals of self-care – and why it’s so important to your success
  • Lara shares a recent mindset shift she made that helps her feel less frazzled and stressed (most days)
  • What finally pushed Aparna to slow down, prioritize self-care – and how she decided what to let go of and what to keep in her life
  • How to deal with the judgment from others when you choose to prioritize your needs
  • How Aparna is navigating the disconnect between the healthier, Ayurvedic food she prefers and the heavier, “junkier” food her teenagers crave – and how she’s transitioning into the mom of teenagers who need less of her time
  • How your choices to take better care of yourself create a ripple effect in the world and people around you
