I love that sentiment. It still gives me chills every time I see it on the back of a teammate’s shirt. It’s the slogan for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training, the generous-of-spirit group of athletes I’ve now been training with for almost seven months – first for the Miami Half Marathon and now for the Lake Placid Half Marathon.
I’ll admit to joining Team in Training primarily to access what I knew was one of the top endurance training programs in the country. I thought “Sure. I’m happy to raise money to cure cancer too. No big deal.”
But it is SUCH A BIG DEAL to the people whose lives are touched directly by LLS research and patient support services. Someone told me at practice the other day about a race they’d run recently during which a spectator saw their Team in Training jersey and shouted “Thank you for saving my wife’s life!!”.
SUCH a big deal.
I’m finally taking a minute to acknowledge here the bigger mission of Team in Training: to advance LLS research and stop cancer from taking more lives (while LLS focuses on blood cancers specifically, their research often uncovers treatments for all kinds of cancers). I hope that you find my random musings about food, running, Pilates, and life useful…at least on occasion. 🙂 I would consider it a personal favor if you could help me reach my March 30 fundraising goal of $650; and my June 1 goal of $2500. Any amount you can offer would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you so much…for reading and for considering a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on my behalf.
P.S. Please share this post with others who might be interested in putting money towards a cure for cancer.
