It’s summer… and last week, I shared 25 ways to eat oatmeal. I’m a little crazy like that. 😉

I also promised that I’d follow up with some smoothie ideas, just in case you’re in a city with a million percent humidity. (I get it…I grew up in Virginia. Stick-y summers! Blech.)

Smoothies go down easy on hot mornings. And, as with oatmeal, the variations are endless.

Not only that, but they’re a great way to front load your day with pure nutrition and hydration.

In this week’s video, I share my tips for making out-of-this-world smoothies, my favorite on-the-go “nutrition delivery system.”

Smoothie Recipes

Lara’s Basic Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 cup liquid (coconut water, almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup frozen fruit
  • 1-2 tablespoons nut butter
  • 1/2-1 cup greens
  • Other “flavorings” to taste
  • 1/2-1 cup ice

Banana Breakfast Smoothie

  • 1 cup kefir
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup granola or rolled oats
  • 1-2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 cup ice

Cherry Banana Ginger Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup frozen sweet cherries
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1/2-1 cup greens (spinach, chard, or kale)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root (about a 2-inch chunk)
  • 1/2-1 cup ice
