I also promised that I’d follow up with some smoothie ideas, just in case you’re in a city with a million percent humidity. (I get it…I grew up in Virginia. Stick-y summers! Blech.)
Smoothies go down easy on hot mornings. And, as with oatmeal, the variations are endless.
Not only that, but they’re a great way to front load your day with pure nutrition and hydration.

Smoothie Recipes
Lara’s Basic Smoothie Recipe
- 1 cup liquid (coconut water, almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, etc.)
- 1/2 cup frozen fruit
- 1-2 tablespoons nut butter
- 1/2-1 cup greens
- Other “flavorings” to taste
- 1/2-1 cup ice
Banana Breakfast Smoothie
- 1 cup kefir
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup granola or rolled oats
- 1-2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 1 cup ice
Cherry Banana Ginger Smoothie
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/4 cup frozen sweet cherries
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 1/2-1 cup greens (spinach, chard, or kale)
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root (about a 2-inch chunk)
- 1/2-1 cup ice
