Are you a breakfast eater? I’m a little obsessed with breakfast. In the universe of food, breakfast – and brunch!! – foods are my Holy Grail. Eggs. Coffee. Oatmeal. Bacon. Mimosas. Pear pecan crumb cake from my favorite brunch place in NYC.
Are you drooling yet?
Or is breakfast just another chore for you? I get that too. It can be a challenge, especially when you’re trying to get out the door to work in the morning. And if you just don’t feel hungry first thing in the morning, that can make it doubly hard to eat.
In today’s post, I give you a few reasons you might want to eat breakfast on a regular basis (it really is important, especially if you’re trying to lose weight), how to get started if your appetite doesn’t kick in until noon, and some simple and quick breakfast ideas to get you fed and out the door on time.
And be sure to check out my “breakfast experiment” below. It’s a great way to figure out what foods will best fuel YOUR body every morning…’cause everyone’s a little different.
Wishing you breakfast-fueled and energy-filled mornings.
Lara’s Breakfast Experiment
Try something different for breakfast every morning for at least five days – seven is better. It can be helpful to do this over a weekend so that you have some extra time to prep meals that you may not be used to cooking.
Write down how you feel just after you eat and again two hours later. Note your energy and hunger levels (on a scale of 1 – 5, 5 being the highest energy or hunger level), your mood, and any other physical “symptoms” you might notice (i.e., my stomach feels a little funky, I’m a little thirsty, I feel spacey, etc.).
Here are some ideas for meals:
Day 1: A bowl of oatmeal (whole rolled oats or steel cut oats, not instant) or some other whole grain (like brown rice, quinoa, etc.)
Day 2: Eggs
Day 3: A bowl of breakfast cereal
Day 4: Greek yogurt with fruit
Day 5: A bagel
Day 6: Fresh vegetables
Day 7: Fresh fruit
The idea is that, over the course of the week, you’ll home in on your “ideal breakfast,” the one that fuels your body and makes you feel your best. Come on back and tell me how it went in the comments!
